Temple Morning

Today is Kayla's 12th Birthday. She has looked forward to this day for a LONG time. We rose before the sun to travel to the beautifully lit Oquirrh Mountain Temple on the hill. Robert was able to baptize and confirm Aubrey and Kayla on behalf of those who have passed on from this life without those saving ordinances. There are so many things we love to do as a family, but being together in the 'House of the Lord' tops the list and mirrors our ultimate goal of one day returning to live in our Heavenly Home as a family.

Mt. View 5K

Posted by Picasa

Brenna is now running 3 miles and has joined the 'racing ranks'. We are so excited to have her out there with us. Today she completed her first 5K in 36:32. Her goal was not to walk, and she stuck with that other than at the water stations. We ran on the Mountain View Corridor, which is a new section of highway in Lehi (opening to cars later this afternoon) that will eventually run along the entire west side of the Salt Lake Valley. It was an out and back route so we were happy to see the rest of the fam heading back as we headed to the turn around. It was so good to be able to cheer them on from across the road.

Kay had a great run, coming in 5th place for all women, followed closely by Aubs and Lindz in 9th and 10th place. We are so proud of EACH of them and were glad to spend this morning together. Love you girls! You ROCK!

Brenna would have loved to have taken over the mic. Maybe one day she'll be a reporter. It was a fun morning together. Thanks to Travis Hess of the Hess Cancer Foundation for having us.

Mary Poppins

Kayla has always loved Mary Poppins - she even has her outfit.

For her birthday we went to see the Broadway show "Mary Poppins.

We had such a fun night together. Dinner at the Nauvoo Cafe dowtown, wandered through Temple Square (dress as Mary Poppins mind you) and enjoyed one another's company. Love you lots Kay!

JR Fun Run 2011

The Fun Run is a long standing tradition at Jordan Ridge. I have helped with it the past few years, but this was the first year I was in charge of it. Can I just say, I had the best committee chairs ever! They were awesome and did an amazing job. Each of them went above and beyond the call of duty and helped put on a great event.

Due to the fact that all of the students at our school are never all in session at the same time, we have to do all activities twice, dividing them by tracks. A & B tracks ran on Sept. 2nd with 'Munchkin Radio' & DJ Mike kicking things off. C & D tracks ran Sept. 16th with 'Bumble' the Minor League Bees Mascot leading the way for them.

Look at that, Brenna is already ahead of Bumble in the Kindergarten race.

Lindz and her best friend Ellie after some bananas, oranges, otter pops, and water.

Emi finished in enough time to go get her teacher some water and bring it to her at the finish line. She loves Mrs. L (go cougs!)

Bumble had to leave before the final races, so here's our awesome principal, Mrs. A, out on 9800 South leading the kids in warm-ups. I can not say enough about all of the wonderful people who helped put this event together. From the police who shut down 9800 South, to the finish line awards writer, to the donated golf cart as our turn around, and the neighborhood notices and signs that went out in preparation, and the first aid station, all the volunteers, all the food prep. Really, it was so fun to be apart of such a great event. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported it! Thank you.

Bikes for 7 - FHE

Brenna was activity for FHE tonight.  Being as she is crazy about riding a 2 wheel bike now, she wanted us to all go bike riding as a family.  I knew we had more than 7 bikes in the garage, but I didn't know if we could match up bikes with people.  Well, amazingly, it worked.  Kayla was stuck with my 1992 mountain bike from college, but she didn't seem to mind.

Here's a quick pic of Em, with Brenna in the background.  The funny thing was (okay, maybe not so funny to Robert) but he spent more time pumping up everyone's tires than we spent out on our bikes.  We were working so hard we never got a picture of everyone all together, but I'm sure we were quite a sight to see.Posted by Picasa

Time Heals

Aubrey and Kayla felt like it had been long enough, so they decided to photograph and share the story of an experience they had a few months ago. The girls had decided to do a 'Spa Night' and got out lots of good smelling lotions and nail polish colors to do each others toes, dimmed the lights, and lit candles for effect.

Kayla takes over the story from here.  "I started to feel hot and uncomfortable when someone noticed that my shorts were on fire.

"It burned through my shorts and on my skin. Mom and Dad called us down for scriptures, so I changed my shorts and stuck an ice pack on my leg.  No one noticed, so we didn't say anything."

Now here's Emi's take on it - "When it happened Aubrey and Kayla were giving Lindsay, Brenna, and me a spa. There was a candle and Kayla was sitting right by it. she was so close to it that it started to burn her! She started to scream and we were all like ''what is happening''? We noticed that she used to be sitting right next to a candle. She took off her shorts and started to cry/laugh. I think she will never forget that day!

Back to Mom - I'm not even sure what to say about this.  They waited a few months before they told us and that was probably a good strategy as at this point we did find it more amusing than upsetting.  Gotta love being a parent.
