Thanksgiving Break

By the time Thanksgiving came around this year, we were all feeling ready for a short break from our normal routines.   We recognize that we live in a 'busy season' of life,  and we fully embrace that, but when the school calendar showed 3 DAYS OFF, we knew this would be a good time to venture towards warmth and sunshine.
Two years ago we had prepped the entire house for new carpet to be installed the week before Thanksgiving, but it did not arrive in time.
Well, that spontaneous trip and Thanksgiving Day Magic Mountain trip ended up being one of their very favorite Thanksgivings, so we decided to do it again.  Here's a short recap video of our trip.
One of the highlights of the trip was being able to visit with Jeannette in Oceanside.  We had not been to her new place yet, so it was nice to spend some time in her apartment and be able to eat a nice meal with her in the dining room and also to have her join us at the beach.  We got to visit and reminisce about the 4th of July firework shows she and my Grandpa used to take me to at this beach. Thankful for the time we were able to spend together with her this weekend.

Bathroom Update

They say you need at least one good piece of inspiration to redecorate a room - well, for the girls bathroom update, this was mine.  It jumped out at me from the store shelf, so I got it, and based the new shower curtain, rug, towels, and dispensers around it.  It's fun to have to do a little updating once in awhile.

Post Game Celebration

Our house was not the post game celebration location, but these girls stopped by for minute after the game.  Kay was very happy to have a Football State Championship her senior year.

This was Robert and I's post game celebration - hanging out with these kiddos. We miss the fun of having little kids in our house (not that teenagers aren't fun),  so we're happy when we get to have some over for a few hours.

We did puzzles, play-do, blanket piles, roll the ball games (that's my favorite), played outside
and hit up the play land at McDonalds .  With all the big kids gone, Brenna was happy to have some friends to play with too.

Pre-Game Lunch

Lindsay had some friends over for lunch before heading up to Rice-Eccles stadium for the State Championship Football Game, which they won 49-9.  It's a great day to be a Miner!

Bottle Flipping

The girls are all in water bottle flipping.  It's what they do while they drink bottled water.  Take a drink, flip the bottle, take a drink, a few more flips, until the water is gone.  Here's one of Emi's favorite 'flips' that Brenna caught on tape.

Recreating Favorite Photos

Kay and Em loved this photo of them, so they recreated it.  They are definitely growing up on us.

Brenna @ JA Biz Town

It's finally Brenna's turn to attend Biz Town.  She has heard her sisters talk about this Absolutely Very FAVORITE 5th grade field trip, and today it is finally her turn.  You can learn more about what this field trip entails here: Lindsay at Biz Town
And maybe a little more here:  Emily at Biz Town

But this day it was all about Brenna and her fellow 5th graders.  I was assigned to help at 'Chik-Fil-A' with Danny, Isabella, & Jordan running the show there.
They were a great little group of workers, probably the best I've seen in my 5 years at Biz Town
I actually think having fewer employees helps in this situation.  One CEO, one CFO, and one Sales Manager - they all knew and understood their individual roles and fulfilled them.  I've had years where we had 5 or 6 workers, and it seemed to get much more complicated with the additional workers.
During my lunch break I ran over to Larry H. Miller, where Brenna was serving as the CEO.  Looks like she was signing off on something when I saw her.

She also gave a speech during a Town Hall Meeting

Here she is manning her storefront.

Watching Brenna do a live interview on KSL-TV from a booth at Chik-Fil-A

She enjoys being on camera

Depositing her pay check at the bank so she could go shopping

And singing her company jingle 'On Air' at the local radio station.  It was a busy day for these kids.  Some were frustrated with the issues at their job site, others had bank issues. some didn't like being limited on how much cash they could withdraw, or that certain merchants would only accept checks.  The worst frustration was when a student realized went to buy an item (these are really items such as hats, water bottles, and pencils that they buy and take home with their fake funds) and were told they had insufficient funds in their account to make that purchase.  That was the worst.  You could sometimes hear them 2 or 3 storefront away complaining/trying to figure out how they could not have enough money in their accounts.  That's what biz town is all about, giving students of small taste of how employment, banking, and marketplaces work.  It is such an awesome program and location to  experience and learn more about life as an adult.

Love this girl and love how much fun she and her friends are having during their Senior Year!

Checking on Superwoman's Skeleton

Brenna came home from school on Halloween and said she fell off the playground equipment at recess and her wrist was hurting a little.  We looked at it, but didn't see anything so we just went about the afternoon and getting ready for trick-or-treating.  Once we were out, Brenna had to carry to candy bag in her left hand, because the right wrist was still bothering her.

When it was still hurting the next morning. we decided to take her in to get it checked out.  The doctor took a quick look at it and sent her down for x-rays.

Yes, indeed, Superwomen broke her wrist at school on Halloween.  She will wear a soft cast for about a month to let it heal.  The doctor also added a 'flu shot' for good measure.
With her history of broken bones, the doctor decided to look at her bone density, to see of that may be a factor in all of these breaks.  Everything came back great.  No bone issues.  All of her breaks show up as 'buckle fractures' which is the result of putting a limb down to stop yourself during a fall.  So, Brenna pretty much plays hard and ........ sometimes falls.
