The Midnight Mayhem might be when people start to question why we would bring our kids down to experience this 'Sleeping on the Rose Parade Route' tradition. It can be a little riotous at times, but have learned to enjoy life and not be too limited by fears or possibilities of disruptions. We set safety precautions, are aware of our surroundings, and trust in the Lord.
After taking the kids to Guatemala last year, we know they can handle just about anything. They experienced raw life in conditions that are too harsh for Sister Missionary's to even enter. They have seen much of the world and we value participating in experiences together much more than acquiring or giving them material possessions. As a family, we love adventure and this was an adventure we wanted to experience together.

About 11:30 pm the cars started thinning out and began cruising - meaning they would go cruise up and down the street over and over again.
This is a sign that you can start the 'Attacks' - silly string, marshmallows, tortillas, and even whipped cream. So here's the trick to it all. The passengers in the cars are trying to attack you with 'soft' food items before or without you attacking them, so there is a lot of messy windows as they go up and down. They need access to throw, but don't want to be hit with their window down. Your goal is to get food/gunk into their car, while the window is down.
It's all very fun and no one got hurt, just a few whipped cream stuffed tortillas and clumps of silly string in the hair and on their coats, but we brought wipes, and got all cleaned up when it was over.
This was probably the girls favorite part of the night.
and Nick's as well. Nothing quite like this back in Utah, or even back at the hotel his family was staying at out in Valencia.
