Afterschool recording

I'm not sure which child made this recording, but it was just so typical of an afternoon in our house.  I loved it.  B is outside throwing/feeding Odie snowballs, someone is videoing her, I'm giving a spelling test, Aubrey is probably doing homework and singing with her Ipod.  These are the days we will one day look back on and miss. 

Daughter of a King

Knock.Knock. Knock.  Some one's at the door...or some thing's at the door.  SURPRISE!

Ugh.  She wasn't expecting to be asked to a dance by a male cheerleader from another school.  This was tough. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has standards that members commit to follow.  One of those standards is to not date until you are 16.  Aubs has chosen to live those standards and has faith that they come from a loving Heavenly Father who has His children's best interest in mind, but she didn't know it would be this hard.  The young man that has asked her to be his 'Queen' at the Ball, is a nice young men and she would enjoy attending the dance with him.

Lucky for her, and as with all trials we experience in life, there was a tender mercy that came from her Father in Heaven to help her.  Just after Christmas she asked a family friend to make her a "Daughter of a King" vinyl wall saying to go in her newly decorated room.  That friend had dropped the vinyl off on this day and left it on the porch.  When she went outside tonight, not only did she find all of the royalty gifts Ty had left her on the porch, but she also found the vinyl saying she had requested and it held the answer she needed, to know how to respond to the kind invitation to the Ball.

Time to get to work. 

Aubrey and Kay started writing a poem to put on a poster board.  Mom and Dad hit the store for a cake, candles, balloons, candy, and a Burger King crown.

Dad began turning the BK crown into a golden crown fit for a King.

Others began blowing up balloons and curling ribbon. We quickly headed for the hills where this fine young prince lived.

Less then 2 hours after receiving her 1st dance date invitation, she replied with the following:

"I would love to be seen with you as your Queen, but as the Daughter of a King, I'm waiting 'til 16"

She left it on his porch with 16 balloons and a lit cake with 16 candles and we drove away.  It was hard, we know it was hard, but she is a strong girl.  The trials she has experienced with cheer the past 3 years have taught her to keep her commitments to herself 100% of the time, not 98%.  There will always be extenuating circumstances that could be used to justify changing your standards, but this girl is strong, she has faith and she knows that she literally is a
"Daughter of a King."

Cabela's

Martin Luther King Day - No school, no work, no plans, so we decided to hit Cabela's.  We are probably some of the only Utahn's who have never visited that store before. 

And once inside, we decided we were probably the only 7 people in the store who have never shot a gun before.

But we just looked at all the animals and the girls wanted their pictures with the cute ones. :)

Sledding at Daybreak

We love sledding at this particular hill in Daybreak.  It's obviously a popular spot.

After waiting for 5 minutes for this Snowboarder to move, the girls final just went for it.  They are about 1/3 of the way down the hill.

About 4/5 of the way down the hill headed straight for the Snowboarder.

BAM.  They took out the oblivious Snowboarder.

Now they are just cracking up about it.

Trudging back up the hill. No tow ropes here.

Nothing  better to do on a cold and snowy day then take pictures of each other.  This activity can occupy them for hours.
