A quick recap about the movie:
Tom Hanks is A MAN CALLED OTTO, the neighborhood crank who has no tolerance for those who don't follow the rules. After retiring and the loss of his wife, Otto feels he has nothing else to live for. But his pesky neighbors keep interrupting his attempts to end his life.
I prefer movies based on true stories, or that could be based on a true story like this one. We're are always looking for ways to expand our knowledge, deepen our understanding, or hit some nerve that helps us be a better people and this movie definitely did that for all of us.
It was a tear jerker. Recognizing people in our lives that may be lonely, sad, depressed, and unsure of why they should continue on. That's tough. Who can we be reaching out to? How can we be sharing our love and ourselves more with other, especially those who are different that we are or may not come across as friendly, like Otto.
The best part of a good movie is a desire to take action after you leave. I appreciate the little nudge to reach out to a widow in our neighborhood. Aubs, Elan, & the boys walked across the street to visit the Parks, an elderly couple that they don't see as much in the winter time.
I tend to judge movies on whether they were 'worth' my 2 hours of time or not. This one was definitely worth the time and tears and hopefully changed me for the better.
