Grady & Brenna

I generally don't post pictures of others on the blog without their permission, but once Carrie posted this, I knew I could do the same.  This is Brenna's friend Grady.  He was diagnosed with Leukemia back in February and Brenna has been worried about him, especially when he has to go into the hospital for chemo treatments.  When he is doing well, they playing together, he comes over to swim, and they run around laughing, making faces, and finishing each others sentences just like they have since kindergarten.  When he is not doing good, she prays for him and often wonders what else she should do for him.

This picture was taken on the afternoon of her baptism.  Grady was 'in-patient' for 4 days doing a treatment, so he wasn't able to come to her baptism.  That afternoon, when all the presents had been opened, and all of the friends had left, she asked if we could go visit Grady at the hospital.  She was very aware of the covenants she had made that day, and wanted to go see Grady.

Those of you who know her personally, know how much she truly cares for others.  She is a wise soul and great example of Christ like love for others.  We are so glad she could spend some of her baptism day with Grady and his awesome family!

RMD Bike Ride

Emi and I decided to bike to one of her very favorite places - Rocky Mountain Dance Studio.  This is where her love for dance became her passion and where she devotes 3-4 days a week improving her dance skills.  Since she had the week off from dance, she wanted to ride the 5.2 miles over there to visit.

Then we hit up Arctic Circle for some fries and an ice cream topper, before heading back home.  It's been fun having off track time with just Emi and exploring new activity options together.

Hike the Y

My sister Barb is in town to drop Nathan and Rachael off at BYU.  She thought her trip wouldn't be complete with a Hike to the Y.  It had been a  few years since she had last done it, but....
                                                                     She MADE IT!!!
We made it together.  Man, I love the view from the Y.  Such a awesome place to start the day and the new school year.  Glad I got to share this hike with her!  You ROCK Barb!!

Mrs. Larsens Wedding

This is our girls favorite 2nd grade teacher - Miss Lawrence - now Mrs. Larsen.  She has taught 3 of our girls and is well loved in our house.  It was Brenna's pleasure to hear about Miss Lawrence's boyfriend, and their courtship last year while in her class, and Brenna has been anticipating this wedding reception ever since.  We are so happy for Rhett & Melissa!  Congratulations!

Ogden Temple Open House

The Lord has always commanded His people to build temples.  Temples are special places where we perform sacred ordinances for ourselves as well as those who have passed on before us.  It is also a place where we are taught Heavenly Father's Plan for us.
Learn more about temples at this link:  lds temples

Prior to temples being dedicated for the purpose of performing sacred ordinances, they are always open to the public to view and walk through.  Today we were able to go through the Ogden Temple as a family.

We feel very blessed to have so many temples in our midst. We find peace and solace from the cares and worries of the world,  as we serve there.  I never imagined the joy I would feel as a parent to be able to go to the temple with my children and participate in proxy baptisms with them.  Temple worship brings us closer to God and to our families, and help us understand and prepare for life after this life.

Pioneer Wagon Dinner

After attending the Ogden Temple Open House, we went to what we call - The Pioneer Wagon

Prairie Schooner Steak House is the actual  name of the restaurant - but you can see above

why we might call it that. The girls loved eating in an actual pioneer wagon.
and posing with the pioneers....

and animals in the center of the wagons.
A fun way to finish off a special day!

Grady's Wish

Grady and Brenna have been friends since Kindergarten, and get along super well.  In February, Grady was diagnosed with Leukemia and has began a 3 year chemotherapy plan to rid his body of it.  He is 6 months into his treatment and is doing well.  Though they don't see each other as much as they used to, they are still able to have play dates and swim together when he is feel up to it.  This week, we attended a special "Pirate Party" in Grady's honor where his Make-A-Wish wish was pronounced and proclaimed to he and his family.

His wish was to go to Disney World in Orlando with his family and we are so excited for them to go and enjoy this special time together.  They are an amazing family and we admire them in so many ways.

Argh,  and THANK YOU to all those associated with the Make-A-Wish Foundation for making  Grady's Wish come true.

NY Giants Training Camp

Robert spent the weekend at New York Giants NFL Training Camp in conjunction with a work project he was a part of.
As you can imagine...super nice facilities, super nice headquarters, super BIG dudes.

Return of 2 Sister Missionaries

Madi is home.  Kate is home.  These 2 cousin missionaries have been an important part of our family's lives the past 18 months.  Based on the experiences we have had with Sister Missionaries as a family as we've toured Church History Sites, Sister Missionaries have always held a special place in our hearts.  And these 2 sister missionaries did as well.  We read their letters faithfully each week and tried to write them often.  They set the bar high, worked hard, shared trials and triumphs and influenced people they'd never met before as well as those they love and care for deeply back at home.  Our extended family has been changed by their service and we welcome them home with honor and respect.

We now have other family members (Hermana Katie Holt in Puerto Rico) and so very many of our stake and ward family members out serving throughout the world.  What a remarkable gift and service to leave your personal cares, goals. and accomplishments behind at the young age of 18 or 19 to consecrate 18-24 months to the Lord by serving His children, and sharing the 'good news' of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are thankful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our lives and for the opportunity we each have to build up the kingdom of God here upon the Earth in these the last days.

BYU Cheer Camp

This was Aubrey's 3rd year at BYU Cheer camp - her last and her favorite.  She loved her stunt group and roommate from Michigan.
She has taken to being a 'base' and has the muscles, bruises and scratches to show for it.

Leading the crowd

She loved her week on campus at BYU.  We'll have to see what the next year holds for her.  Great job Aubs!
