These 2 spent the summer working for the Salt Lake South Valley Moquito Abatement District. They rode their bikes 20+ miles a day putting pesticide packets into storms drains - roughly 400 storm drains a day. They girls are amazing. When they first started the manager told them that they don't let siblings be partners, but they each did so well with other partners, that he eventually let them go out and work together.
Pesticide throwing
They head to the Abatement at 6:40 am. Change their clothes, fill their camelbacks and water bottles, and load their lunches and bikes onto their trucks. They get their route for the day and head to that location to park the truck and start biking. They experience about everything you can think of while their on their bikes.....people yelling at them, honking, making cat calls, swerving, questioning what they are doing, and Em had 1 person approach her with a gun on his waist and another call the police on her. All in a days work.
The pesticide packets are onl;y palced in wet storm drains so can disolve and kill moquito larvae. There is some definte competition that goes on between the 8 bikers about who can drop the most packets in a day with the most accuracy. You can only see your score during the day, but as soon as you walk into the Abatement Office, the scores for the day are listed on big screen TV's. Lots of motivation to get those packets out accurately.
These girls worked their booites off all summer and loved the times they were able to work together.
And they did a little dancing too.
