Heritage Halls Building 16 - same building Kayla & Emily lived in
Brenns contuinued to go back & forth between Provo & Sojo, but last night was her 1st night sleeping in her dorm room.
She & Makayla (her roommmate) got up this morning to go for a run across campus and literally RAN into Emily carrying a box of Einstein bagel's to her TA training. What are the chances?
We are so excited for Lindsay, Emily, & Brenna to all be at BYU together this year, and if today is any indication, seems like they'll be seeing each other quite a bit.
The annual 'Beginning of the School Year Clothing Swap' has been a tradition in our ward for many years. As our numbers have dwindled, it has been harder to pull off, but this year I had an idea. Let's doing a 'YW 9800 building clothing swap' instead of just our ward. This brought in a lot more girls and a lot more clothes and turned out to be such a great activity.
Today they received an Offical Hero Citation from the Utah Senate floor as well as the Utah House of Representatives Floor for saving the life of Joey Espinoza on June 8th, 2024.
Brenna found us....
We sat in the gallery with Stacy (Brandon's mom) and Jeff & Shauntelle (James's parents) & Jake & Kathy (Zach's parents)
This was the best part of the event - the kids getting to meet Joey & Leanna again.
These honors are great....but knowing you helped save the life of a father, husband, and friend is really all that matters. We have devleoped a special love for this family as we have prayed for them by name these past few months and we are so grateful for the kids quick actions in helping them that evening.
Last day out treading through the swamps of South Jordan for Brenna & her partner Isaac.
She started the summer on the Swamp Crew - they go into the swamp with dippers and scoop up mosquitos & larvae and bring them back for the biologist to test for West Nile.
Part way through she got to be on Bike crew - they ride about 20-30 miles a day around the vallet dropping pesticide packets into wet storm drains. She loves the sunshine, exercise, and the fact that they post your packet drop and accuracy #'s on big TV's when everyone returns back to the Abatement, so a little competiveness on bike crew.
Then she finished off the summer back to Swamp crew because only a certain number of people are trained on that and they needed more testing and less prevention as the summer comes to an end.
What a great job this has this been for her. She will always have a special place in her heart for mosquitos, larvae, swamps, steel toed boots, and protective eyewear and West Nile Virus.
They say it takes a special personality to work at Mosquito Abatement, and I guess all the Miller Girls have it.
We've been trying to coordinate a time to go boating Natasha & Gus and their kids - and tonight worked. Yay! Brandon Gonzalez also got home from his mission over the weekend, so he and Zach Leger were able to join us too.
Such a great night out on the lake!
Fresh off the missh... and still able to surf
It was so fun to get to visit with him and hear about his mission. As much as we loved hearing about it.....it was even better to see how much he has changed. His love for the Savior and His teachings and gospel. His love for the people he served and desire to sacrifice his own personal wants and desires to help other know and grown closer to Jesus Christ. There is nothing quite like seeing how Jesus Christ changes lives and changes hearts, and what a blessing full time missions are.
Makai wanted Pizza for his birthday dinner, so homemade pizzas it was.
We kept making them
and Dad kept cooking them.
Lots of time to play in the yard
and open presents....
So many fun new toys
and maybe his favorite present.....more 'basketball' shirts.
He wants to wear a basketball shirt every single day.
So glad we got to celebrate this guy! He is so cute, so fun, so talkative, so thoughtful, so good at sharing, and soooo loveable. Such a joy to get to watch him grow up!
Tonight we had Missy Hostetter's wedding reception in Springville, so we set up dinner with Tony & Cindy. Seems like we only get together a couple times a year now, but I never feels like we've skipped a beat since our last visit. They are both so full of light and goodness and we love being together.
Since we were home from the lake much earlier than we would have been home from hiking Timp, Robert thought we'd have time to go by an Open House in Herriman that ended at 2:00.
We made it about 1:56 and we really liked the house and the property. We don't/didn't have plans to move for a few years, but this house does have about everything we are looking for in our next house.
We got up at 5:00am today to do our annual Timp Hike. As we were getting ready, I realized I had not made a parking reservation. Blah. We hurried and logged on - FULL.
We contemplated our options.
Do we drive further and start on the Aspen Grove side?
It is steeper and harder?
How many miles from the trailhead would be need at park?
Will we get back in time for Em to get to work?
As we're talking, time is ticking, and we are not prepping our camelbacks & food.
Final decision....let's postpone the hike and hit the lake.
Calm, glassy water and cool temperatures.
Kayla skied and wake boarded while it was still smooth.
Em got some height with her wake board
Robert got to Surf
I stayed in my sweats under the blanket with Milo
By later morning, the clouds moved in and a huge rain and thunder storm hit
We still sat in the rain outside enjoying our In-N-Out
