Visitor Time @ Primary's

There was no shortage of visitors to see Aubs and Makai.  He was happy to see his brothers and happy to share his new toys with them.

By the end, he pretty much just wanted his Mom.
Or to watch Brenna sing & dance for him

Love you Makai.  Glad you're doing better and we hope to see you at home tomorrow.

Choking Part II - Primary's

Saturday night we were all together eating (of all things) at the Cougareat.  Makai was running around the tables and taking stuff to the trash can for everyone. Instead of going to the Smith Fieldhouse for Volleyball - Aubs, Elan & the boys went to the Wilk to Bowl before heading home for the night.

In the middle of the night, Makai woke up coughing/choking - similar to what he had done Thursday night. Elan tried to clear his cough up with a steam shower and patting his back, but the coughing turned into vomiting and they decided to have Aubrey take him up to Primary Children's Hospital.
We are soooo glad they did and Primary's took great care of him.  They got him on breathing machines and did a CT Scan and could see an edamame bean at the bottom of his trachea. So the ER at AF had not removed it with their suction technique on Thursday night and just let him go home Friday morning with food still lodge deep down in his throat.
Primary Children's got him into surgery quickly and were able to remove the edaname bean 'whole'.
I got to Facetime with him during church.

I can not adequately express how grateful I am that he is okay. The thought of a small child choking on a small piece of food is a literal nightmare of mine.

Just over 10 years ago our neighbor Sammie, who was almost exactly Makai's age, choked on a pea and passed away. It was tragic in everyway and I think of her often when I see her Mom, or Aunt or visit the house they lived in, or see her butterfly graveside at the local cemetery. It is so painful to know that parents have suffered the loss of a child due to choking.  Heartbreaking.

I don't know why or how Makai's life was spared at this time, but I will forever by grateful for the quick action of his parents, the skills and expertise of the doctors, and the tender mercies of the Lord.

Choking Part I - AF ER

On Thursday night, Aubs & Elan had friends over for dinner. Makai was in his tower eating edaname and started to choke and cough. His cough became pretty severe, so Aubrey immediately drove him to the nearest Emergency Room at American Fork Hospital.  They got him in and hooked him up to oxygen. I don't remember of they did any scans, but they did some suction work trying to suction out his throat and lungs, kept him most of the night for observation, then released him the next morning.

Provo Night on the Town

Michael & Ally are up in Utah for meetings this weekend, so we decided to try to get everyone together in Provo for a night on the town.  With not much notice, we were able to get Aubs, Elan, the boys, Lindsay, Jeremy, Emily, Kayla & Katie all together for dinner at the Cougareat (BYU Cafeteria).

Then Men's Volleyball at the Smith Fieldhouse

We added Logan and a few bucket hats and finished off the night with Handel's Ice Cream.
So glad we got to visit and hangout together!

Cookies with Ally

Aunt Ally is in town. It's probably weird for the boys to hear someone that sounds so much like their Gigi.
Ikaika figures since Gig makes cookies with him, Ally would want to make cookies with him too.
He was correct, Ally is just not used to make only 1 batch of cookies. With no teenage boys in out house, the quantity of food that gets eaten here is far smaller than at her house.

Makai is always happy to help.

No pic of the final product, but they turned out awesome as always!

Sunshine Run

There was lots of SUNSHINE today so we went for a run.
So good for the soul and so fun to run with my bestie!

Aspen Community Night

Dawn, Jodi, Jenna P. & I represented the Foundation at the annual Aspen Elementary School Community Night. It's a great night for families to come and learn about resources in the community that can help or assist them in a variety of ways. This year, we were giving away tongs, hot pads, pizza cutters, bags, hair ties, bounce balls, and band-aids packs all donated from local hospitals.

The event ran from 5:30-8 and it was packed the whole time. So grateful for all those that work so hard to support and welcome families, and especially refugee families to our community.

Brighton Night Skiing

Brighton Night Skiing for Kay & Dad tonight.

Thank You to Steve Starks

Today we got to visit with Steve in his office and THANK him for sharing his time, treasure, & talents with us the past few years as a member of the Jordan Education Foundation Board. He was instrumental in growing our annual Golf Tournament at Glenmoor and is always will to lend support in areas that benefit students and teachers in our community.

You can read more about Steve's career with the Larry H. Miller Companies by clicking on the link:

Currently, Steve is most well known for leading to the charge to bring:
- Winter Olympics back to Salt Lake
-Major League Baseball to SLC
-National Hockey league to SLC
-New MLB Stadium to SLC
-New Public Venue in South Jordan

***in our meeting today he shared one more HUGE addition that he just finished up negotiations on that should be announced to the public soon. This is going to be BIGGGG!

So yes, Steve is a giant in our community, but one thing that is not mentioned in the above bio is that he has served as a Stake President in the Daybreak area of South Jordan for the past 9 years. I have so much respect for the time, effort, and sacrifices he and his family have made over the years to allow him to not only serve our community but also serve so many in his faith community.

Painting & Pottying

I often see the boys when they are over at our house, but it's always super fun to go play with them at their house and see all the fun things they are doing.
Today is was painting.  We painted Mario mushrooms - I wish I had a pic of the final products.

Makai was doing watercolors

Kekoa was also working on potty training.
He is doing so good and he loves all his new undies.

Post lunch clean-up routine. Ikaika vacuums up the kitchen area after lunch each day

He's got the whole thing down. Move the stools vacuum all the way around the island. Push the stool back. Plug the vacuum back in.  Done. I love seeing their little routines and how much fun they have together at home.

Exercise Church

It has been probably close to 10 years since I've been to the exercise church.

This place brings back sooo many good memories for me. I think I started coming here when Brenna was 2 or 3-years old. It was always a fun place to work out, but the people were the BEST part.

Many of my friends from our ward up in Glenmoor would come, so I'd get to hang out with them. Brenna got to play with tons of other kids on the stage or in the overflow.  At that time, Jan Sara was still running all of the classes, and she had been doing that for 12 -15 years at that point. Every September we would have a pot luck luncheon to celebrate another year of the 'Exercise Church'.

Once Brenna started morning Kindergarten,  Jan asked me if I'd like to start teaching there once a week.  I had no real qualifications, but I was brave/nervous and I started teaching.  We were averaging 80-100 women every morning, so it was a big group. I worried about the music, my mic, the timing, was I providing a hard enough workout for those that were looking for that, was I providing sufficient modifications for those that needed them. It was a little bit stressful, but I did it, and I'm so glad I did. It helped me build my confidence trust in myself that I can do things that are out of my comfort zone.

3 life impacting blessings that came during my years at the exercise church.

1- Becoming better friends with Cindy Sweat. I love Cindy and I appreciate all those years when we were raising our kiddos that we'd get to talk for an hour each day while we worked out together.  She strengthened my testimony and helped me become a better mom and friend.  We went through Tony going to graduated school up at USU, moving within the neighborhood, praying with them about whether he should take the job at BYU, to all the worries about moving the kids down to Springville, and leaving their family and friends in South Jordan. We both lived lots of life during those years, with lots of changes, challenges, and unknowns and I'm glad we got to share those years exercising together.

2 - Meeting Jill Milne. So crazy that Jill and I met at the exercise church when Maryn and Brenna were little. Over the years, Jill has become one of my very best friends.  She brings so much goodness and joy to my life, she is one of my greatest cheerleaders and closest confidants.  She is always working to be more like the Savior and she is an example to me in so many ways.  I am definitely a better person because of her and I'm grateful that the exercise church brought us together all those years ago.

3 - An encounter with President Maxfield.  President M had just been called as our new stake president.  I knew his wife Jen from the exercise church, but didn't really know him yet.  Within the first few weeks of his call, he came to workout at the exercise church with Jen. He is a pretty big guy, who played football at Stanford, and though men are welcome there, we rarely see them.  As we were finishing up I went up to talk to them and introduced myself. He repeated my name and said how nice it was to meet me.

Within a week, his executive secretary called me in for an interview.
President shared with me how he had received my 'name' in a dream for a certain calling, though he did not know who I is was yet. The next morning he felt impressed to go to the exercise church with Jen, and there he met 'Jenna Miller' who he then knew would serve as the next Stake Young Woman's President.  He said he came to the exercise church once, had the experience he needed, and never plans to attend again.  That was the start of another great friendship that has truly changed and blessed my life.

Emotinal Resilancy Notes

I attended a Mental Health Night put on by the Jordan School District awhile back.

It was one of the best seminars in mental health that I have ever attended.
I felt like everything they covered was helpful and applicable in my everyday life.

I wanted to make sure my notes were saved on the blog somewhere so I can pull them up in the future.

College Cooking Class

Denae made this this awesome college cookbooks for the girls.
They chose 2 of the recipes to make for each other tonight.
Ambree & Kiara cutting up the chicken for Teryaki Chicken and Brocoli. Look at that good cutting technique Bishop taught them.

Sisters all working together

Waiting for the food

B was working away on her masterpiece

Thanks Katelin for letting us use your house and thanks Denae for the cookbooks. These girls should have 2 solid recipes under their belts to make when they are out on their own.

5:00am Let's Go

A few posts/pics from the 'gram.
B is taking a break from social media, so she delegated posting on binghamgirlslax out to other players.  Looks like they are rockin' it.  So fun to see pics of them out on the turf in the early morning darkness & working out in the new weight room.

Eye & Finger Treatments

It's been a busy day.....not sure what days of life are not busy for B, but this one definitely was.
Started the day with a slight migraine. Had to pick her up and drive her home from school after about an hour so she could try to rest.  Slept for an hour or so, and said she was ready to go back.
2 hours of lacrosse practice on the turf and the straight to Primary's for a check-up.

As soon as she walked in the room, the doctor said, what is going on with you? She felt her pulse, looked at her tongue and asked why she'd been vomiting?? It always amazes me how much they know what is going on inside her body from small clues like her pulse, mouth, and how much blood come to the surface in all the different points of her cuppings.

The vomiting was from the migraine. which is always behind her eyes, so the acupuncture focus was on the back of her eyes and her swollen fingers - mostly likely both due to inflammation on her body.

I did not love the needles in her eyes

but she says she can't even feel them?

And is grateful to all of the treatments Primary's provides to help her feel her best.

Where da Girls at?

Looks like their all at Aubrey's for a much needed Girls Night.
And BeReal captured it pretty well

Brenna's

Kayla's

Lindsay's

Emily's

I honestly feel like one of my greatest accomplishments as a parent was helping to create strong relationships between these girls.  They are AMAZING in everyway and I know they will always always take care of each other and our family.
