Another 'Where We At'?

With Robert and I being busy in LA, it's been so nice to get pics from the kids just showing where they're at and what they're up to.
Today we're in Montrose, CA renting the Knights of Columbus building to host the Luncheon after Papa's funeral.

Aubs is driving with da boys. Koa has his favorite koala with him.

Brenna is skiing with Makayla

Em is teaching American Heritage

Lindsay is on the bus headed to Arizona for a lacrosse tourney

Lindsay's team

Nate & Kayla are in Vietnam

Nate had a small moped accident that landed him in the hospital, but they are both doing fine and enjoying their travels.
I love getting quick recaps on what everyone is up to and how they're doing via pics.

Plethora of Emotions

These last few days, we have experienced a plethora of emotions as we have reflected on Dan's life and the amazing legacy he leaves behind.
Deep sorrow for his passing. Deep gratitude for the time we were able to spend together. Deep respect for who he was and how he helped shape who we are today.
Crippin's Mortuary has been a part of our small community for almost 100 years, and we have driven passed this building atleast 100 times, but never been inside until today.

Nikki is our Arrangement Counselor and she was kind, caring, compassionate and vert knowledgale about this process. It was nice to know that Papa would be in good hands here.

Later that evening, our Bishop's family door dashed us dinner as we sat together to write Papa's Obituary. So thankful for all the kind people that have reached out to provide comfort, support, & meals for us here in LA, as well as for Brenna back home.

Daniel Raymond Miller (1945 - 2024)

Daniel Miller was born on May 22, 1945 in Moline, IL to Elsie and Vernon Miller. He passed away at home surrounded by his family on February 17, 2024 after a courageous 25-year battle with cancer.

Growing up in the then vibrant Quad Cities, Dan loved spending time with his older brother Larry and his two older sisters Julie and Marilyn. He had a profound respect for his stepfather Bob Cheney and always thought of him as his father. Dan was a proud graduate of Alleman High School in Rock Island, IL and enjoyed spending time with his friends and working on his TR3. He spent many hours working in the local foundry and there committed himself to furthering his education.

After high school, Dan moved to Orange County, California to live with his older sister Julie and attend college. He was actively involved with campus life at Long Beach State University, and there met the love of his life, Francee Ottem. He graduated with a degree in Industrial Arts education in 1969 and began his career as a woodshop teacher that fall at La Canada High School. He and Francee were married that winter.

Dan worked at La Canada High for over 20 years and loved mentoring young people as a teacher, coach and advisor. He was especially proud of the enduring relationships he forged with many students that lasted the rest of his life. The second half of his career was spent working for the Los Angeles County Office of Education, first as an administrator for the ROP program and later as the first executive director of the GAIN Welfare to Work program. Dan truly believed in the transformative power of honest work and was a passionate advocate for those in need. He retired in 2006 and was blessed to maintain many friendships from his time at LCHS and LACOE.

Free of work obligations, Dan filled his retirement with a variety of new hobbies. He was an eager member of the Pasadena Pacers Running Club, even completing a few marathons. Dan enjoyed restoring a sailboat and building arts and crafts around the house. He also developed a love for quilting and spent many hours making quilts for family and friends.

The most important thing in Dan’s life was his family. He and Francee were married for 54 years and blessed with two sons, Michael and Robert. Dan loved supporting his boys in all their activities and coached many baseball and basketball teams with them. He even stopped coaching at LCHS when Michael entered high school so he could attend all of his games. Dan loved nothing more than being Papa to his seven grandchildren and three great-grandsons. They will always remember the way he made each of them feel special whenever they interacted. Papa had a love for life and for them that was unparalleled.

Survived by his loving wife Francee and their sons Michael (Katherine) and Robert (Jenna)

Grandchildren: Aubrey (Elan), Kayla, Lindsay (Jeremy), Emily, Christopher, Bobby and Brenna

Great Grandsons: Ikaika, Kekoa and Makai

Siblings: Marilyn (Keith) Rodgers

Preceded in death by his parents Bob and Elsie and siblings Larry and Julie.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Redeemer Church, 2400 Montrose Avenue, Montrose, CA 91020 on Saturday March 16th at 11 a.m. followed by a reception at the Knights of Columbus Hall at  2657 Honolulu, Montrose.

This girl is headed to BYU!

She has worked hard for many years with the hope of attending BYU and today it all came to fruition. She is officially a BYU Cougar.

I never imgained she would get her acceptance email when almost everyone was out of town, but a big THANK YOU to Brandon and Milo for being here to support her when she that long awaited email arrived in her inbox.

And the next BEST NEWS - she'll be rooming with her lifelong BFF Makayla down at the Y.

Makayla is always so thoughtful and brought her a Y cupcake at the basketball game.

Kay & Nate Update

They made it safely to the Philippines!
The first text we got from Kay said:

"This is heavenon earth!!!!!
My heart is exploding!!!!!"

It was so fun to watch her locations as she traveled around the islands. It brought back a flood of memories of the people and experiences she had on her mission in those different locations.
Good times, Hard times, but always surrounded by the most wonderful people ever!

This is the hut she & Nate stayed in. Came with mosquitos nets, 1 fan, and endless amounts of cockroaches, which did not bother her one bit. Nate, not such a fan of all the friends in the hut.

From the Philippines to Thailand

More beautiful places to explore

culture to experience, and people to meet.

Valentine's Day 2024

Valentine's Day
Celebrating all the special people in our lives.
Robert is in LA helping his parents, so it was just me, B, & Milo here to celebrate.
B got a sleeve of one of her favorite treats - chocolate covered strawberries 🍓

I got to see a few of my favorite valentine's

They brought Robert & I Valentine's

and they found some valentine's with their names on them.

From here, they headed off to deliver valentine's to their friends all over the valley.
They are little, but they have lots of love to share with others. 💗

Brandon and Brenna finshed off the night 'heart'-attacking cars in a local hospital parking lot.
Such a great day to share love with those around us!
